Ryoma
Tourists on the Ryoma enjoying a harbor boat cruise around Shinagawa Wharf, Odaiba Island, and Rainbow Bridge located in the upper portion of Tokyo Bay.
Standing on the shore at night, you can hear the echoes of jovial passengers singing, chatting, and laughing with some occasional singing as they wine and dine on Japanese dishes. Regardless of nationality and language barriers, both the Japanese and foreigners onboard seem to be having a delightful experience of sharing memorable experiences that I am sure they will treasure and share with loved ones back home.

Rainbow Bridge
View of Rainbow Bridge from a beach on the island of Odaiba. In 1853, the Shogunate ordered the building of Odaiba island, among other man-made islands in Tokyo Bay,  to host canon batteries for the defense of Edo (modern Tokyo) in response to the arrival of U.S. Navy Commodore Perry and his warships.
With the completion of the bridge in 1993, the island has rapidly transformed into a popular tourist destination and is home to luxury high-rise condos with beautiful views of Tokyo Bay.

Dinner Cruise Boats in Tokyo Bay
The low profile of these boats allows them to head up the Sumida River where they have to pass under highway and pedestrian bridges that are located almost every kilometer or so up the river.
Visiting this beach with my dog on a cool autumn evening is great due to the fewer number of tourists and people on the beach, which gives me a chance to take her off her leash and let her bark at the boats in the bay.

Dairin-ji Temple

Lion-Dog
The lion-dog creature (komainu in Japanese) was introduced to Japan in the 6th century from India via the Silk Road. Nowadays, the komainu are typically pairs of stone or metal statues placed outdoors near the gate of a Shinto Shrine. On some Buddhist temples, however, we can still see the heads of komainu carved of wood under the eaves of the temple. The carving in this photo was taken at the Dairin-ji Temple, which was originally founded in 1570.

Japanese Wooden Statue
Face of a nearly 6-foot tall wooden statue called Kongorikishi at the Dairin-ji Temple in Yokohama. The statues are always in pairs and represent Alpha & Omega, Beginning & End, or Birth & Death. Originally Hindu gods, they were adopted into Buddhism and are guardians of many Buddhist temples in Japan.
