Hakone Daikanzan


In this week’s video of landscape photography in Japan, we visit Daikanzan in Hakone, Japan for some wide vistas overlooking Ashinoko Lake, Suruga Bay, and the Numazu coastline. 

I initially chose this location for the fantastic view of Mt. Fuji in the distance. Unfortunately, the cloud  cover did  not work in my favor, so I had to refocus my efforts on alternate compositions.

Lake & Mountains
The Hakone Daikanzan Observatory belongs to the list of Japan’s Top 100 Scenic Spots, which was a list compiled by two major newspapers in 1927. On a clear day, Mt. Fuji can be seen in the distance, towering over Lake Ashinoko below.
